Drop-by-drop nitrogen pressurization and inertization

In order to increase the pressure in the PET bottles for unload the pallets with the bottles and so save the space floor during the storage and the transport and save the costs of perform PET (reducing the PET thickness) SOL has developed a specific system called drop by drop can based on the directly injection in of drops of Liquid Nitrogen in the bottlers that vaporized are able to increase the pressure and keep also inert the beverage.

This technology developed by SOL in the first half of 1990s permits also to to inert and avoind the contsact with oxygen present in the air of many food products package in different containers.

Thanks to the inert nature of nitrogen, which also has a low solubility in liquids and so does not dissolve in the drinks, or food products SOL drop-by-drop technology makes it possible to combine all the advantages of a protective atmosphere with the advantages of reducing the space needed to store bottles in PET, thanks to the pressurisation effect, by stacking the bottles higher, and saving on the cost of pre-forms in PET to send to the blow moulder thanks to the possibility of reducing their weight.

The drop-by-drop system permits also an high productivity, up to 300 containers/bottlers per minute, with great precision and with limited consumption of nitrogen, and a margins of tolerance limited to +/- 5% of the content of nitrogen required for each package/container.

The principal food production processes interested in the application are:

  • the bottling of still mineral water;
  • the packaging of beverages, soft drinks, fruit juices and still drinks;
  • the packaging of liquid or semisolid food products (sauces, purees etc) or solid products in jars and tins (nuts).
